As part of the inaugural North to Shore Festival, Asbury Park Dance Festival presents Dance is Life, an inclusive, FREE Hustle social dance party event that physically engages our community, shares the Hustle’s expansive vision of the dance floor, its origins and deep connection to civil rights, gay rights, women’s rights and American culture.
Led by former Principal Dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company and Hustle evangelist, Abdiel Jacobsen and world renowned DJ and co founder, Natasha Diggs, participants of all skill levels will experience this vibrant, celebratory dance form.

Maureen Glennon Clayton will premiere two small works; When I Fall, a trio signifying the potential need to provide others and oneself with stability and safety and Us, a duet created with the dancers inspired by their own personal stories of where they are presently in their lives. Both works serve as examples of the virtues and intrinsic traits of endurance, empathy, generosity, and integrity that women uphold. Four guest choregraphers will present work and Glennon will present here new group piece, MOVE, with over 30 participants performing.

For artistic director Ariel Grossman, this season is about reemerging and working with dancers who trust their vulnerabilities and bodies in an overwhelmingly beautiful way, which is healing and provides hope.

Every Day We Wake Up is an immersive, site-specific performance inspired by Seward Johnson’s sculpture The Awakening, the many histories of Hopewell Valley, and the land of St. Michael’s Farm Preserve. Weaving together dance, music, storytelling, poetry, and community artmaking, this gathering considers memory, imagination, legacy, and nature. Featuring work by performing artists Michael J. Love, Tomia MacQueen, Sattriya Dance Company, Maiko Uchida, Ann Robideaux, donia salem harhoor, and more, this family friendly event celebrates the arrival of the monumental sculpture to Hopewell. This groundbreaking project uses dance and art to depict mental health, addiction and disabilities. Dance performances will feature internationally renowned dancer and disability activist, Kitty Lunn, as well as the award winning dancers of iDance.

2) Live Dance Performances and
3) a Resource Fair (for mental health, addiction and disabilities)

Nimbus Repertory Workshop 2023

Join Nimbus Dance for a three day professional workshop designed to challenge physicality and inspire creative approaches to dance. Designed for professional/ advanced pre-professional dancers 18+, this workshop nurtures technique and introduces Nimbus’ multi-faceted approach to dance, while allowing space for individual creative voices. Master classes will be taught by acclaimed faculty, such as Roger Jeffrey, Jessica Batten, and Yoshito Sakuraba. The acclaimed faculty will provide in-depth coaching to enhance each dancer’s artistic voice.

Join us for the 15th annual Ailey Day celebration at NJPAC! This full day of immersion into dance includes a variety of movement classes taught by this year’s talented group of professional artists, including Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater alumni, and faculty and students.
Dancers at all skill levels are invited to take part — you can take your first steps into dance performance, or show off the moves you already have, at this joyful event. In addition to the classes, you’re invited to join us for a group warm up session, and a panel discussion with our visiting instructors. When you aren’t dancing, join our engaged partners for arts and wellness activities, including children’s book readings, health screenings, and mosaic art making. At the end of the day, you’re invited to demonstrate what you’ve learned, and see performances by a cohort of local dance companies at the Show & Share.
